Asian Dan Interview: Venice

Venice is a mysterious Italian producer that is a modern day embodiment of all the Italian musical traditions ranging from Baroque music to Italo Disco with just the right amount of banger-ness. Venice is also a big collaborator with CΓ©cile. Peep R0LL. Rondo Veneziano would be proud.

A Cross the Universe: Live Remixes

Jus†ice x Glenjamn x Hard Halloween

The Electro Banger scene has become quite stale and is just the same heavy distorted sound, but Justice has restored my faith in the power in loud electro bangers with these live Remixes/Revisions of “Phantom” and “One Minute to Midnight”. The duo have come a long way from their first live performances. They deconstruct, mix, and mash their own tracks in Ableton with such ease that it almost sounds like they are “playing” instruments. I am excited to hear what they have in store for the future. I am also very excited for the rest of this live album and the DVD. \m/

Phantom Part 1.5 sounds like Metallica meets Yellow Magic Orchestra & Rondo Veneziano.

Eine Kleine Nacht Musik

Rondo Veneziano’s “La Serenissima” has made quite an impression on the electronic music community within the past year. Justice dropped this track in their famous Xmas Mix, Daft Punk featured this track as one of their favorite dance tracks, Cazals used this track as their entrance music during their Daft Punk Japan tour and The Bloody Beetroots tapped into their Italian roots with their own cover, “We Are from Venice”. Now Eine Kleine Nacht Musik aka Riton has tapped into this amazing track with his own rendition, adding a few Kraut elements to it. I definitely feel this version more than the Bloody Beetroots one (Sorry Bob!). But of course nothing beats the original πŸ™‚ Checkout his myspace for more Krautrocked-out tunes.

The Bloody Beetroots – We Are From Venice (La Serenissima)

The long awaited cover/remix of Rondo Veneziano’s track La Serenissima by Italy’s own The Bloody Beetroots. La Serenissima is a track favored by both Justice and Daft Punk.

Italo-Disco

Chromatics are on the New Jersey based label, Italians Do it Better. A label that is in love witht he classic Italo-Disco sound pioneered by Giorgio Moroder. The vocals on their tracks remind me of the sexy. whispery vocals of Donna Summer.

Simple and catchy, yet dark and sophisticated:
Chromatics – I Want You Love

This track reminds me off a “Shadowplay” by Joy Division especially the lead guitar. This is like a sexy Joy Division cover band
Chromatics – Healer

This track exemplifies the amazing Italian Baroque sense of melody that The Bloody Beetroots have just like past Italian disco greats, Rondo Veneziano. They are a versatile duo that I believe are going to do big things in the future.
