Here is Mayer Hawthorne doing a soulful rendition of my favorite Christmas song by the one and only Vince Guaraldi. I even listen to this when Christmas time is not here along with the synth intro to Paul McCartney “Wonderful Christmas Time”. Enjoy!

Pure class. The Gentlemen Funk has arrive. A pairing of massive straight G proportion. Snoop Dogg enlists Mayer Hawthorne to add yet some more class and swagger to his track “Gangsta Luv”. The way Mayer Hawthorne’s lofty falsetto just falls over the 16th note hi-hat groove and bassline just puts me in G mood.

As a gift to his Twitter followers Mayer Hawthorne decided to give away an old track from his more beat oriented days under his old moniker DJ Haircut. This track is a very Stones Throw sounding track with its unquantized/Dilla-esque sounding drums and a smooth bassline that reminds me of Dam Funk. This is yet more proof of how talented Mr. Hawthorne is at capturing the key elements of the genres of music he tries to recreate.

Ever since I discovered Mayer Hawthorne last fall I have been on a look out for when this white boy was going to release an album. Somehow he is able to turn what should be just a novelty act into an honest and respectable homage to soul. Dig it.

Classixx dropped into KCRW’s Raul Campos show the other day to drop some smooth disco musical knowledge for all of us. I am also quite excited about their upcoming remix of Mayer Hawthorne!

Mayer Hawthrone cleans up quite well. This tune is a lot more polished and has that modernized R&B sound, not as gritty as “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out” but still as good. Stones Throw can do no wrong.
