Mahavishnu Orchestra : Celestial Terrestrial Commuters

There was a time when synths were played by hands, basslines were not sequenced and kick drums were played with a foot. Mahavishnu Orchestra were the epitome of musicianship and genre blending in the 70s. John McLaughlin and co have created music that most musicians are afraid to aspire towards these days. “Celestial Terrestrial Commuters” is a brief peak into this fusion world, a track that clocks in under 3 mins yet showcases all that is possible in the Mahavishnu world.

No wonder Sebastien Tellier is so musically inclined. His dad was in a 70s Euro Prog Rock band. Magma, a fusion spaz jazz prog rock band that reminds me of a Mahavishnu Orchestra with the rambling vocals of Damo Suzuki meets the crooner vocals of Bryan Ferry. The drummer is a tank and Zach Hill from Hella adores him.
