Kanye West – Power

Spent all day letting the new Kanye song simmer and sit with me and I came to the verdict that it is blogworthy and quite good. It is Kanye doing what Kanye does and this time sampling King Crimson?! Sure! Why not?

Sébastien Tellier & Fela Kuti

Sébastien Tellier has been likened to the famous Todd Rundgren, with his versatility and abilty to grasp and fuse pop music with extreme virtuosity. He reminds me of Vincent Gallo meets Jon Brion and of course Serge Gainsbourg. Here is the fantastic track that apparently Radiohead ripped off on “Reckoner”. The famous Tony Allen, Fela Kuti’s drummer plays drums on this track as well as on Sébastien Tellier’s album, Politics, he beat Damon Albarn, take that The Good, the Bad and the Queen. Take note of the gorgeous and lush strings that work so well with the drums and bass.

Sebastien Tellier – La Ritournelle

Sébastien Tellier – Sexual Sportswear

Daft Punk used this song in Electroma. It reminds me of King Crimson/Vincent Gallo with the heavy use of mellotron.

The official video for Sébastien Tellier – La Ritournelle (Mr. Dan’s Mix) by director Ace Norton, who also directed the new Simian Mobile Disco video for Huslter.

And finally the one and only, “African James Brown”, Mr. Fela Kuti featuring Cream’s Ginger Baker:

David Byrne digs Vampire Weekend
Oh, and I totally enjoy David Byrne’s subtle dissing of Animal Collective.
“Playing” mainly consisted of pushing faders up and down. To be fair, two of the three guys took turns singing, though I couldn’t make out any of the words; so yes, there was more to focus on than just faders moving.”
Now that is how a gentlemen drinks his haterade.

Vampire Weekend – Mansard Roof
Vampire Weekend has often been compared to the Talking Heads so no wonder why he likes their sound.

Talking Heads – Born Under the Punches (The Heat Goes On)
Adrian Belew from King Crimson plays lead guitar on this track.

Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)
This Talking Heads track is one of my top 10 fav songs of all time.

Klaxons – No Diggity (Blackstreet Cover)

Hall & Oates + Todd Rundgren = ??!?!?!!!!! And some other new music

In 1974 an amazing collaboration occured between two musical giants to produce an album that very few know about. “War Babies” a prog pop masterpiece that serves as a precursor of what amazing music these musical mavens would create. Todd Rundgren’s Utopia played all the music on the album providing a sound remiscent of the prog greats of the time such as Yes, Genesis & King Crimson. I liken this album to what Minus the Bear does in the 21st century. Prog Pop at its best.
Hall & Oates – Beanie G. and The Rose Tattoo

Justin Timberlake totally rips off Andy Gibb, the youngest Bee Gee’s brother who was too good to be in the group and had to go solo. He was a total baller rock star and died of a drug overdose, too bad.
Andy Gibb – (Our love) Don’t Throw it All Away

Check out my boy Zack’s band Radiation Year and their new song from their upcoming cd, “Age of the Everglades”. They are a fresh sounding hardcore band that evokes the energy of Rage Against the Machine and just makes you want to kick someone in the face.
Radiotion Year – Sex On the Beach

Here is some German electro goodness from our boy, Boys Noize. Cranking out the distorted, tight, synth sounds that no one can resist. Check out the rest of his album Oi Oi Oi which comes out this week.
