James Blake + Brian Eno : Digital Lion

James Blake unveils his collaboration with Brian Eno off his sophomore album, “Overgrown”. “Digital Lion” is track built upon layers of sounds that swarm and trickle over one another in just under 5 mins, quite a cerebral and hypnotic tune from this duo.

James Blake : CMYK (Live @ Pitchfork Festival)

Finally James Blake is playing CMYK live. When I caught James Blake down at the Fader Fort in SXSW it was a Bass filled set that highlighted his dance side while his show back in May at Le Poisson Rouge here in NYC highlighted his songwriter side mixed in with sparse dance moments. Hopefully he has developed his sets into something that flows and strikes a balance between his dance/song-y side. This is exactly what I was expecting from CMYK live, an amazing extended and energetic rendition of track that showcases the full musical spectrum that is James Blake.

James Blake : Tep and The Logic

James Blake welcome to the big leagues as you are signed to Universal here in America and as blog giants such as Perez Hilton blog the shit out of you. The most amazing thing about James Blake is not just his production quality and songwriting but his ability to make you feel like the music is just for you. His music becomes a gem that you want to cherish and keep to yourself as that artist that you discovered on your own.

Apparently this is a bonus track off of James Blake’s self-titled debut album. An eerie track soaked in reverb with a creaking drum pattern and howling vocal samples that is deconstructed into something that echos his post-dubstep predecessor and godfather, Burial.

James Blake – I Only Know (What I Know Now)

James Blake’s “CMYK” is one of my favorite releases of the year. Before this year closes out he will drop another EP entitled “Klavierwerke” which I am sure will also join CMYK’s ranks. “I Only Know (What I Know Now)” is a track of the EP that is up there with Mount Kimbie’s “Maybes”, both tunes that slowly unfold in a very thoughtful and introspective way revealing music that is able to soothe the mind and soul. I always try to find a genre for James Blake/Mount Kimbie and Co, everyone says they are leading the whole Post-Dubstep scene but there music is a religious experience so I will call it “Gospel-step”. Amen!

Klavierwerke EP is out 9.27.2010 and out 10.4.2010 on vinyl onR&S Records

Mount Kimbie : “Field” + US Tour Dates

I have been following the London based duo, Mount Kimbie for a while – as they offer a refreshing sonic palette cleanser in an over saturated/banger world. I probably listen to their track “Maybes” at last once a day. July 19, 2010 marks the release of their full length album “Crooks & Lovers” a piece of recording that pays homage to the album format and is a true sonic journey. The one and only James Blake makes a few cameos on the album as well.

Check out “Field” off of “Crooks & Lovers” as well as a live video in Oslo from 2009 with James Blake.
