Emil & Friends is one day away from releasing the debut album, Lo & Behold. Eleven songs that take the listener on a genre trip. The single after the thoughtful “Prescriptions” is “Crystal Ball” a tune that pulls from the bloghaus sounds of 2007 and the big electro-pop of 2009 but with a fresh vibe of 2011. I will let the songs speak for itself and let your feet do the dancing.
PS Let’s play the a good ol’ game of get the MP3 to the top of the Hypemachine charts and give a little <3 to “Crystal Ball”

When I first gave Emil & Friends’ debut album, “Lo & Behold” a first listen I was struck by the vast sounds and genres that Emil touches upon, while still adding his unique touch that makes him “Emil”. “Prescriptions” was a song that at first listen hit me by how epic yet very personal it sound and felt. The lyrics especially captured me the most by how honest and truthful they are.
I will let Emil’s description of the song speak for itself, Prescriptions will “pull the listener into a sleeping bag on the shingled roof of their best friend’s house, or place them wandering midsummer through a field so familiar that they are guided through the dark by memory instead of moonlight.”
“Lo & Behold” will be available to the world on October 11, 2011 thanks to Cantora Records. So be ready for this 11 song musical journey. Till then feel free to listen and download this cinematic and nostalgia driven song for free via spinner.com.

I know that April 2, 2011 in NYC is a big day for indie music, for it is the final farewell to the indie synth gods LCD Soundsystem. But for those of you who did not get tickets (duh) or don’t care for James Murphy and co, make your way over to Littlefield in Brooklyn to witness a great pairing of acts, The Stepkids and Emil & Friends. There will be lasers, guitar solos, synths and dancing. So please join us.
Emil poses a question, “What makes Pop music Pop?” with his productions and songwriting. With this latest track “Cheap Imitations” he proves that it is not glossy production and perfect playing and that it all comes down to melody. How all it takes is an infectious melody to dig deep into your skull. He proves that not understanding a single word in a song is OK and even better in creating a mystery and need to listen to a track over and over again to figure it out further burrowing those hooks into your mind. Jai Paul and Mr. Emil are on their way to paving a new way into a Freak-Pop genre that deconstructs Pop music and distilling it into something fresh, fun and exciting.
Mr. Emil has been making moves these past few months, moving down to NYC to join the Cantora Records family and now remixing NYC’s Samuel. An uber-pop production featuring 0o0o’s and Ah’s by Emil himself. It’s only a matter of time before more Emil music emerges.
