Asian Dan Presents Classic House Tracks According to the Word of Todd: Björk x Masters At Work

Sponsored by Scion

Yet another installment of guest posts from Mr. Edwards, this time a lovely remix by Masters At Work of Bjork along side the tune that it inspired, The Sample Choir “Feeling Lonely”. Hope you are all enjoying and learning from this House music history less from Professor Todd.

Masters at Work’s Bjork “Violently Happy” Dub, another of my favorite MAW productions. It is Taken or influenced from an interlude by Kool And The Gang, the musical riff is one of the catchiest and most uplifiting used in an MAW dub. Once again, Kenny Dope’s use of hard snares and reverb drive the track.I attempted, once again, to emulate their work. This attempt came in the form of my track “Feeling Lonely” on The Sample Choir EP…I didn’t come close. 😉

Modeselektor work their magic on this great Björk track that features Antony Hegarty and Lightning Bolt’s Brian Chippendale. I especially enjoy the bridge and what Modeselektor does with Björk’s and Antony’s vox.

Fantastic track that shows off their pop sensibility, proving they are not just some punk nu-rave kids. This track reminds me a little of the Klaxons with that British pop sense reminiscent of New Order and later 808 State. The bass part is quite impressive especially during the chorus.

Björk x Ratatat

Ratatat seems to enjoy exclusively remixing Scandinavian artists, The Knife (Sweden), Shout Out Louds (Sweden), and now the one and only Björk (Iceland). I’m waiting for Ratatat to conquer the Franks.

Radiohead & New Order

Radiohead covers Ceremony by New Order!!! This is the most amazing thing ever. This is one of my favorite New Order songs and this soldifies my faith in Radiohead as being the greatest band in the world today. They also covered Bjork’s “Unravel” and The Smiths “The Headmaster Ritual”. Tis a good day.

Cheers and much love.
