Erol Alkan returns with another musical seminar aka a second round of a Bugged Out / Bugged In Mix. It shall be another musical journey that will move the mind and feet. Out September 7th on K7. Checkout this unreleased deep psychedlic re-work of Connan Mockasin’s “Forever Dolphin Love” that closes out the Bugged Out Mix.
Metronomy has released one of my favorite albums of the year with “The English Riviera” – an album that exercises the power of subtly through production, songwriting, lyrics, and musicianship. At first it took over 5+ listens to really appreciate and understand the album, especially after not being a fan of their previous LP’s. “The Look” was the tune that won me over and after seeing them live in Tours, France back in February I was ready to accept Metronomy into my life. Listen to this teaser of Erol Alkan’s remix of “The Bay” – a tune that makes slap bass cool again.
Metronomy – The Bay (Erol Alkan’s Extended Rework) PREVIEW by Erol Alkan
Erol Alkan has been pumping out some amazing quality remixes lately. First with that fantastic remix of Tame Impalaand now this psychedelic journey of a remix for Connan Mockasin. I guess it is always a hit when Erol remixes an Aussie or Kiwi rock band.
Connan Mockasin – Forever Dolphin Love (Erol Alkan Rework)
Tame Imapala brought me one of my favorite records of 2010, “Innerspeaker” – a tastefully psychedelic collection of tunes that paid homage to the album format, a medium that is not as respected or properly executed as it was years before. Mr. Alkan swoops and transforms “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind” into a fuzzed out disco track. Who knew harmonized distorted guitars could be so satisfying on the dancefloor.
Here is a preview of Erol Alkan’s re-working/re-edit/re-visioning of Gonzales’ “Never Stop” out on limited edition vinyl on Phantasy Sound. Erol turns the Rap/Piano track into a disco-techno-electro dancefloor ready tune – nothing revolutionary or different for Mr. Alkan but if anything Erol is preparing us all for the epic “Ivory Tower”.
Chilly Gonzales – ‘Never Stop’ (Erol Alkan Rework) – Preview by phantasysound
Erol drops Tiga’s remix of Miike Snow “Black and Blue”, Joy Orbision “Hyph Mngo”, and Gonzales’ remix of “Waves”. IS THAT A NEW LATE OF THE PIER TRACK AT THE END?!

This should be amazing for what a colossal collaboration/remix this is – but I understand that Bob wanted to retain as much of original as he could so this is more for an edit than a remix.

Check out a vid of The Bloody Beetroots “LIVE”…? More like a little minimix they put together that Bob and Tommy decided to pretend to play – funny stuff.
Simple, Yet Effective. That is what Mr. Alkan does best.
