LCD Soundsystem x Soulwax: You Wanted A Hit

Soulwax remixing LCD Soundsystem is not an uncommon thing in the dance world. But it is always a collaboration we can count on being oh so good and undeniably danceable. I love that the Dewaele Bros really retain the “song” elements and structure of the original track in this remix. It is the usual “boom-chk-boom-chk” drums that Soulwax has perfected with that chunky monophonic distorted bassline that we know and love. Now all we need is some new original material from the Soulwax bros as well as that remix of Late of the Pier’s “Best in The Class”.

Jimmy Whoo – Parisfornication EP

Artwork by Esteban Gonzalez, neue.be

Asian Dan Intern Sam strikes back with one of his favorite release of the year by Jimmy Whoo.

“It’s finally here, Jimmy Whoo’s first EP is out! The Parisian producer entitled his debut EP, “Parisfornication” which is released through Bunker Sounds. Including six amazing tracks, including Bleep Music (which we have been talking about a few months ago earlier in February on the blog). It countains sick instrumentals and some very interesting vocals. Jimmy has been working with some of his close friends on this project such as Gab B and Da Big Loubensky. All the tracks have been mastered by Dave Cooley from LA who has worked with the legendary J Dilla. You can buy his EP here. Check out Jimmy Whoo on Facebook.

Aeroplane – We Can’t Fly

Aeroplane swoops in with a massive Balearic disco jam that conjures images of sunny tropical beaches. “We Can’t Fly” sounds like a Larry Levan b-side to “Standing on the World” or even a track that could have been on the “Hair” soundtrack. It also reminds me of Carly Simon’s “Why”.

Be sure to check out the massive 80s synth laden remix of Breakbot’s “Baby I’m Yours”. I thought after Siriusmo’s remix that no one could top it but this might have.

Jean Nipon x Sixpack: Fire Walk With Me

In a time when the blogosphere is overly saturated and overly compressed like all our favorite banger tracks, it is refreshing to know that a DJ/producer such as Jean Nipon exists and is on the quest to bring quality music to our ears and dancefloors. A DJ that is out to moves minds, hearts and feet.

Jean Nipon teams up with Sixpack to release his latest mix, “Fire Walk With Me”. A collection of tunes that Jean Nipon describes as “like my bedroom soundtrack with no commercial sense. There is nothing to promote here. Just take the car, cruise, and push play.” Any mix that includes Todd Rundgren, Fleetwood Mac, and Yes – I support so buy the CD and Shirt here.

Be sure to check out this Fairtilizer Interview with Jean Nipon where he gives some insight into his musical mind.

“Free music or paying music, bad music and good music; for youngsters, it’s all on the same level. You don’t have to look for the grail anymore. You are no longer forced to have the “intention” to create your own musical quest, your own musical identity.”Jean Nipon

Monarchy x Holy Ghost!

Holy Ghost! returns to their remix roots with this reworking of Monarchy’s “Love Get Out Of My Way” with the help of Berlin based producer Dixon. This time with a funky harpsichord and fat synth bassline that would make any late 70s/early 80s discotheque groove hard. This is definitely the heaviest production to come from Holy Ghost due in part to the fantastic drum solo that occurs during the bridge courtesy of Jerry Fuchs, RIP. Be sure to check out their live version of the duo in band form coming to a city near you.

1,2,3

1,2,3 are a LA duo by way of Pittsburgh, a band doing some interesting stuff within the guitar-rock world. Just listen to the first few seconds and you will hear some weird/cool production – chunky guitars, thick drums, and psychedelic poppy vox. The outro guitar part sounds so familiar – anyone have any ideas/

Four Tet x Caribou

Caribou’s “Odessa” has been a sunshine/summer tune that has been on repeat for me. Somehow Caribou takes Four Tet’s angelic production, “Angel Echoes” and turns it into a dark and demonic, dancefloor devastating tune.
