A fantastic journey into Phoenix’s musical psyche – twenty tunes that changed their lives and influenced the way they sound. I love the way they romanticize and philiosophize in that oh-so French way about Curtis Mayfield and Kenny Rogers. You can really hear the little production techniques and samples that they strive for in their music in these songs. I especially love the 2nd track, Evie Sands’ “I Can’t Let Go” – an epic 2 mins of pop magic that Branco said he and Daft Punk use to cover when they had their band “Darlin” (the name that came from the Beach Boys tune) together for a summer in their teenage years. Such an amazing list of tunes.

BeatauCue takes Luca’s vocals and chops it into a very Pon Di Floor-esque sounding sample ready for the dance floor. Too bad he didn’t retain any of the original vocal melody, I’m a big fan of the hook. My fav BeatauCue remix/edit is of Noob & Brodinski’s “Peanuts”. I’m looking forward to the Classixx remix of “Devil’s Eyes”.
Annie could have been the queen of this whole electro-pop girl genre that has come to the forefront with Little Boots and La Roux but I guess she has bad luck, with being dropped from Vice cause she did poorly in North America.
This new tune is her usual bubblegum pop with a little touch of diet bloghaus banger. The pre-chorus vocal melody even reminds me of “Chewing Gum”. We shall see what else she has in store when her album drops next week.

Fantastic mix – that includes, Iggy Pop, Joy Division’s “Warsaw”, Blur’s “Music is My Radar”, Skee-Lo (!), Prince’s “Starfish & Coffee”, Jamie Lidell into Miranda! AND Carly Simon’s “Why?” – all my fav tunes from these artists! I can’t wait for the Magistrates’ album.
