This is the first of new music from Yesayer, a cerebral pop tune that washes over you with synths and a tight bass and drum groove. It may not be over the top pop single that “Ambling Alp” was but it does have an epic sweeping outro that calls out to this Henrietta. Good to see that Yeasayer checked off “write a song with a female name” from their musical to-do-list. I am intrigued to hear the rest of their new tunes.
Azealia Banks seems to be going down the list of every hot producer out today first Machinedrum now Hudson Mohawke and Nick Hook on her first single, “Jumanji” off her debut “1991 EP”. Let’s see what happens after all the hype-dust settles to see if Azealia Banks has staying power. I think she may survive with this team of producers she has assembled. We shall see…
Para One has crafted one of the finest releases this year with the help of Teki Latex and the Marble Records team. “Lean On Me” is a futuristic R’n'B track that nods at Aphex Twin and Squarepusher “My Red Hot Car”. This track will be getting some heavy rotation from me this year. The remixes on the release are are fantastic as well especially the Hrdvsion Remix.
Hudson Mohawke and Lunice announce officially that their meeting of the minds, TNGHT will release their debut single July through Warp x LuckyMe Records. Massive choonsz.
“Originally a purely synth based uptempo dancefloor-glider, Alan Palomo’s single from his last LP, “Polish Girl” was reworked in my head as a slow steady head banger, seemingly off of the drive soundtrack, with obnoxious rock guitars pounding away on the down beats. Lather, rinse, and repeat.” – Emil
Hello vintage bloghaus. This is quite a pairing to bring us all back to the ancient bloghaus days. A time when bangers ruled the web and leaked mp3s were scarce and gave power to those blogs that leaked it onto a pre-historic hypem. Do you remember those days? Van She in hand with SebastiAn takes us down nostalgia road with a remix of Van She’s latest single “Idea of Happiness”. It is everything we know and love about how SebastiAn can chop, distort, and compress a tune into its proper banger glory. I’m not mad – u mad?
Nautiluss is the alias of Toronto-based producer Graham Zilla who is channeling the UK club spirit with warm acid-techno vibes. His “Alpha EP” is a collection of 4 tracks that borrow Lone’s warm synth sounds and mixes them with Joy Orbison and Boddika’s deep house & acid sounds. “Cloud City” and “Mixed Numbers” are the two standout tracks for me on this release. These tunes will be on rotation for me this summer.
